The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola

The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyola have been popular for more than five hundred years. St. Ignatius originally composed the Exercises in four sections or Weeks. The First Week is devoted to God's love for us and our failure to respond to His love (sin). The Second Week we contemplate the mysteries of the Life of Christ. The Third Week is devoted to His Passion. The Fourth Week celebrates the Risen Life and ends with The Contemplation for obtaining Divine Love.

St. Ignatius knew that not everyone would be able to go away to a monastery for a month, but still had the desire and ability to do the Exercises so he gave us what is called the nineteenth annotation or Exercises in the Workplace.

I have further adapted the Exercises into what I call: A Geodesic Adaptation. A geodesic is the shortest distance between two events (Einstein). In this case the shortest distance between the one making the Exercises and the director is the computer or the telephone.

The director assigns the exercise on the computer; the client, having completed the prayer, calls the director; they discuss the progress and he gives further directions.

If you would like more information on just how this is done, call me at (202) 687-1325. I shall be happy to hear from you.
